Wonderful World of Websites | Website Wonder Woman

How to make your website more personal is yet another question that I’m often asked and I suppose that’s a good a reason as any to write a blog about it.

When there’s a million and one people out there who all do the same as you, how do you stand out?

What makes the potential client choose you?

How to make your website more personal: 10 tips for injecting your personality in your site

OK, so you don’t have to dress up as a website fairy godmother (unless you really want to!) but as soon as I started putting my real personality into my website, things started changing in my business.

I always say to clients that yes you have to give the visitors what they are looking for, but anyone can do that if they are in the same industry as you. It’s the you in your business that makes it different, put the EXTRA WOW into your website.

Since I’ve been creating websites I’ve always been taught and told that the about page is often the second most visited page on your website. The reason why is easy to see. People buy from people, they want to know who you are and more importantly what you can do for them, what makes you different?

The about page is the perfect place to showcase all that, it’s your chance to shine, to really sell yourself and what you do. But remember, it’s not all about you. They don’t want to know your entire life story, that’s not what it’s about. It’s about how ‘you’ specifically can solve a problem or provide them with what they want.

Videos are also good in getting your personality across, especially if you are better on camera than writing copy. I often find it difficult to get my point across in writing but I’m good at talking. But if you are someone that shys away from the camera and you are just nervous it may not be the best medium for you. You want to show people the real you and find the best medium to get that across.

Lot’s of people also shy away from photos on their website but, especially if you are personally providing. the service such. ascoaching, then people want to see who you are. That’s why websites have a meet the team section so that visitors and potential clients can see who they are dealing with before they get in touch, it’s a familiarity thing and it’s helps them feel connected to you.

A lot of businesses are faceless and you can go on their website and never know the person you are dealing with, this may be OK in terms of Amazon and other larger companies but for smaller businesses people tend to buy from people and prefer the more personal touch.

Copy is also really important, as is your messaging. Remember you are still talking to your ideal client but speak to them as if they were in front of you and you are having a conversation with them explaining how you can help them.

It’s also good to have a short bio about yourself or the company on the home page with a paragraph or two about how you can help them and why they should choose you.
