A website isn’t going to make you famous overnight, it isn’t going to suddenly explode your business, it isn’t going to suddenly make you millions. I could go on…
I thought I’d get the negatives out of the way first and let’s get real and honest as so many people believe that having a website will instantly gain them hundreds of new clients.
Unfortunately it’s not true but how do you make more money from your website?
The success of your website begins even before you buy your domain name. But so many people can’t wait to jump in and get something up there so they can look like a credible business that they don’t take the time to think about what their website can actually do for them.
‘I just want an online presence, an informational site so people who want to look can find out more about me, but I don’t really need it do do anything’ is what I’m often told. But why would you spend all that money on time creating something that fingers crossed someone may look for and then if they do find it what will they do just read about you and leave?
So, let’s talk more about how to make money from your website…
In follow on from the above, the first thing that you need to do is decide on a job for your website. What do you actually want it to do? I mean really want it to do?
Yes I get that you want it. tomake you more money in your business but how? If you already run a business at the moment draw out your current sales process. Which bits of that can you hand over to your website to make your life easier?
Do you currently have a funnel in your business? How can you get your website to automate that?
Do you sell products and services? You could put them on your website for people to buy.
As an example, the first step to working with me is to usually book a call so I want my website to be able to automate all that side of things. People who don’t know me read my blogs or sign up to my mailing list. People who are ready to buy can just jump on in and purchase!
I like to call this your website mission!
Once you have your website mission you need to decide on how you are going to get your visitors to complete that mission. And to do that you are going to need to know all about them! Who are they, why do they want to work with you, why should they choose you, how do they buy, what do they need from you and your website to make that decision?
It’s so important to know exactly who your ideal client is and the customer journey that they go through to buy so you can not only recreate that but they will enjoy the process and be ready to sign up!
Here are some more top tips:
Be easy to use – make things really easy to find for people, don’t hide important info or ways to work with you hidden on your site (don’t make them go look!), make sure all text is readable (especially if it’s over an image) and let your content breath by using plenty of space. Also try and stay away from slideshows as most people are on their mobiles these days so scroll down, rather than wait for something to scroll. Also make sure it’s mobile friendly!
Have clear calls to action – once you decide on your website mission or missions you need to actually make it really obvious what you want people to do. Have nice clear call to action buttons that stand out! But give them one thing to do at a time, don’t overwhelm them unless its absolutely necessary.
Be easy to buy from – contact me to buy often puts people off. They want to hand over their money so make it as easy as possible for them to do so. It’s really simple to even add a Paypal or Stripe link.
Social proof is also great, so give them lot’s of testimonials as well as showing you are the expert with your great content, blogs and case studies.
Also don’t forget to get people to sign up to your email list so even when they leave your website, being added to your mailing list will enable you to keep in touch with potential clients.
