A plugin is a little add on to your website that adds an extra bit of functionality. WordPress is just a very basic set up on which to build your website. To actually get your website to do things you need plugins. Plugins tend to be created by other companies or web developers and can be downloaded and installed on your WordPress site.

This video shows you how to install a plugin and also how to add the WP Favs Plugin so that you can install all the plugins you need in one go.

Each plugin then has it’s own video with a brief explanation of what it does and what we use it for. Don’t get hung up on each one as we will be going through them as we need them.

It’s worth watching each video (they are max couple of minutes each) to see what they do.

The main ones you will need to set up are:

Really Simple SSL (security certificate)
Wordfence (security)
Updraft Plus (backup)
Coming Soon (if you want a coming soon page)
Smush (so it will start optimising images)
WP Fastest Cache (site speed)
Smart Crawl (SEO)

Once these are setup, with the exception of Smart crawl which we will be using later on for SEO, then you won’t need to touch them again.

Bloom is used to create optin forms on your website and is part of Elegant Themes. You will still need an email list provider such as Mailerlite/Mailchimp/Convertkit etc. but we will cover this in later modules.
